Hawaii offers a picture perfect paradise to spend one's vacation in. The state is made up of a chain of islands with beautiful waterfront homes to rent, comfortable climate through-out the year, natural beauty and a rich culture. Whether one prefers the excitement of the more crowded destinations like Honolulu or the more remote locations on one of the outer islands like Maui, Kauai, Molokai, Lanai or Hawaii - there is something available to suit all taste and budgets.
Each island of Hawaii has its own set of rivers and lakes, not to mention pristine beaches that offer a large variety of water activities and residential options for vacationing tourist. It should be realized that the lakes in Hawaii are considerably smaller than those found on the mainland and a majority of them are generally just small freshwater reservoirs. Despite this, they provide immense beauty.
There are over 250 lakes, ponds and reservoirs found in the different islands of Hawaii. While the islands are well known for the best ocean fishing, not many tourists are aware of the opportunities for lake fishing. The Wilson and Nu'uanu Reservoirs are amongst the top fishing locations on the island of Oahu, while Crater Reservoir and Mill Reservoir are situated in Maui. The largest of the lakes is the one hundred acre Halalii Lake found on the island of Hawaii. Another attraction is the Tiny Lake Waiau on the Big Island. Located at 13,020 feet close to the summit of a volcano, the lake lies in a crater. The tiny lake measures less than two acres, but the size varies depending on the level of the water. Despite the fact that the lake is situated in a tropical location, it freezes during the winter.
Many of the reservoirs offer lakeside retreats, which include all the luxuries one looks forward to on a perfect vacation. For example, the Kilauea Farms Reservoir is an entire “Malie Wai” or quiet waters project that offers 16.29 acres of spacious and private vacation spot amidst an agricultural preserve. A location like this provides not only a scenic view of the lake from the vacationer's bedroom, but also lets them enjoy the more exotic fruits of the island like sugar cane and pineapples.
These vacation retreats offer large spacious bedrooms with sumptuous decor that includes fine furnishings. Many retreats also offer swimming pools, hot tubs, fine restaurants, in addition to quality entertainment at nearby locations. In many cases, the lakes are situated within a few miles of beaches if one desires a change of scene. Sports activities on the lakes include diving, fishing and swimming. The added benefit of rented homes is that they have furnished kitchens, so cooking in is also possible. This is especially convenient if one is vacationing with the family and plans on preparing some of the meals themselves. Lake front rental homes are available in a variety of sizes, with one to three bedrooms being the most common size.
