Lake House Rentals in Missouri

The tree-filled mountains and valleys that surround the lakes of Missouri provide a beautiful, peaceful setting for a getaway, whether it's a family vacation, an extended romantic weekend or a group reunion. The best way to get the most out of the natural surroundings is to rent a home on the shores of one of the state's many lakes.

More private than a hotel, a lake home gives vacationers more for their money. It allows vacationers to have a more freestyle trip, uninfluenced by when the hotel dining room is open. Furthermore, the full kitchens give renters the freedom to have the foods they want when they want them. Also, those who stay in a lake home rental, whether it's a rustic cabin, cozy bungalow or luxurious home, have a lot more elbowroom than those who stay at a hotel.

During the day, vacationers can step outside and partake in hiking, wildlife watching, biking, boating, swimming or fishing. They can sit on the home's porch as they enjoy their morning coffee or as they watch the sunset before turning in for the night. At night, depending on the amenities of the home they choose, they can watch movies, surf the web or even read in front of a fire.

Renters who want to mix their outdoor fun with non-nature-themed activities generally have just a short drive to enjoy shopping for gifts, watching a live show or walking through a museum. Popular lakes and their nearby entertainment include:

• Table Rock Lake: Located in the Ozark Mountains, Table Rock is not far from Branson, Missouri, which offers live shows, shopping, golf, boat cruises, helicopter rides and museums. Just outside of Branson is the 1800s-themed amusement park Silver Dollar City.

• Lake of the Ozarks: Vacationers staying at Lake of the Ozarks are just a quick trip away from Osage Beach, Missouri. Though smaller than Branson, Osage Beach also offers visitors shopping at an outlet mall, golf and live shows. Attractions also include Laser tag and the Clayground, a playground where people can paint their own pottery.

• Mark Twain Lake: Renters can enjoy the water park, paddle boats, miniature golf and go-carts at Mark Twain Lake Resort. Also, in nearby Hannibal, Missouri, birthplace of author Samuel Langhorne Clemons (Mark Twain), vacationers can visit museums highlighting the author's life or the region's history.

• Truman Lake: Renters who choose Truman Lake's shores have access to year-round fishing right outside their front door. Just a short drive, however, provides a treat for history buffs as they visit Truman Dam or the swinging bridge along Highway 7 or take a walking or driving tour along the Osage River and Butterfield stagecoach trail.

Renters can enjoy these and many more activities without spending a lot of time on the road. And then, at the end of the day, they can return to peace and quiet the lakefront home.
