Lake House Rentals in New York

Upstate New York has more land than you realize. This is even the case if you live in the New York metropolitan area. Only those who live in upstate New York and those who have vacationed here before know how spacious and scenic upstate New York can be. While almost every area of upstate New York is beautiful, the best places to go are Cayuga Lake, Seneca Lake and Great Sacandaga Lake. To make the most of any of these experiences, be sure to stay in a lake house. Each one of these areas offers lake house rentals, which we will cover more in detail below.

Lake house rentals on Cayuga Lake are smaller and more affordable than the other two locations. You should still receive close to 100 feet of waterfront as well as a minimum of 1,000 square feet of interior space. The views are excellent and the odds of having a large lawn to enjoy are good. However, the best reasons for renting a lake house on Cayuga Lake are the close proximity to the Cayuga Wine Trail as well as the Cayuga Museum of History & Art. These two attractions alone can make for the ideal romantic getaway. If these attractions don't fit what you're looking for, then you will still have other options. These options include hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, snowmobiling, canoeing, kayaking and scenic drives through the Finger Lakes region. The latter is highly recommended, especially if you visit in autumn.

Seneca Lake has many Cape Cod-style homes that are often around 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms and offer 1,500 square feet of space. Once again, you should expect about 100 feet of waterfront space. The best part about lake house rentals on Seneca Lake is that many of the homes were built very close to the shore. In some cases, getting to the water from the back porch will only require 10 steps. Other benefits to renting a lake house on Seneca Lake are the likelihood of a private dock, the possibility of an electric boat lift, beautiful sunsets over the water, at least one fireplace in the home and close proximity to Seneca Falls.

Great Sacandaga Lake might be the least known lake on this list, but it offers incredible lake homes for rent. The majority of the homes here were built within the last 20 years and offer a modern atmosphere. These homes usually come with at least 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and over 2,000 square feet of space, making the average lake home here larger than lake homes in the other two locations. There's also an excellent chance you will receive more waterfront space – over 150 feet. Even a private beach is possible. Other potential and impressive features for lake house rentals on Great Sacandaga Lake include a rollout deck, a gourmet kitchen with high-end appliances and a patio with tables, benches and a fire pit.

If you really want to experience upstate New York, then plan on renting a lake house in each of the aforementioned locations. It's always fun to compare once you have visited all three lakes.
