Lake House Rentals in Virginia

If you've been looking for a way to escape Virginia's infamously hot and sticky summer months or a peaceful haven where you can enjoy the sight of beautiful trees reflected on azure waters, you should consider renting a house on or near one of this state's lovely lakes. If, on the other hand, you are the owner of a lake property that isn't always utilized to its full potential, renting it out to others can help pay for your vacation home or even generate a little extra income for you.

Virginia is home to some very pretty lakes. Thankfully, a number of these picturesque lakes are located within a short driving distance to some major Virginian cities, which means that you can spend more of your precious vacation time on fun activities such as jet skiing, boating, hiking, swimming and fishing, and less time fighting traffic on congested roads reaching your destination.

One of Virginia's most popular lakes is Lake Anna. Although this beautiful, manmade lake is located only about an hour and half from Washington, DC and approximately an hour from Richmond and Charlottesville, it still gives visitors the feeling they are out in the country. Whether you rent a house here for a week or a weekend, you will find plenty of fun water activities to keep you busy on Lake Anna.

Another popular lake located about an hour from Washington, DC and Richmond is the 550-acre, 3-mile-long Lake of the Woods. This private lake is situated in a gated golf community. There is plenty to do at Lake of the Woods, which not only boasts an 18-hole PGA course, but also an equestrian center and tennis courts, in addition to all of the water activities available at the lake.

If you enjoy being in the mountains, consider renting a vacation home near Smith Mountain Lake, a 40-mile-long, over 20,000-acre lake set in rural southwest Virginia, between the cities of Lynchburg and Roanoke. This lovely lake, which is set against the backdrop of the rolling Blue Ridge Mountains, has much to offer its guests, including swimming, boating, fishing and horseback riding.

Buggs Island Lake, which is also known as Kerr Lake, is Virginia's largest lake, covering over 50,000 acres. This lake has over 800 miles of shoreline and is situated on the Virginia and North Carolina borders. Another lake that lies on the North Carolina and Virginia border is 20,300-acre Lake Gaston, which is located between Route 95 and Route 85. Both of these lakes offer many excellent recreational opportunities, including fishing and boating, and both are very pretty bodies of water where you can enjoy nature at its best.

There are a number of other lakes in Virginia, including 21-mile-long Claytor Lake, which is located in Pulaski County, close to two universities, Virginia Tech and Radford, so finding a perfect one to fit your needs should be a snap.
